Youth group swim lessons will resume in the Fall 2024 semester.

Princeton Swim Lessons coincide with the University Academic Semesters.

Typical Fall/Spring Group Lesson Schedule

Toddlers (2-3 yrs)

Saturday 11am - 11:30am

Preschool (3-5 yrs)

Monday 4:45pm - 5:15pm
Wednesday 4:45pm-5:15pm

Level 1/2/3 (6-9 yrs)

Fall/Spring Sessions

Registration is available online in August (for Fall) and January (for Spring). Exact dates as well as online registration links will be posted in the middle of those months.

  • 8-10 lessons per session
  • No lessons during Fall/Spring Break
  • 1 Makeup lesson at the end of each session
    (Makeup lessons are for any participant who miss a day of class in that session.)

Cost: $200
 
DISCOUNTS: Receive $25 off when registering 2 students OR for 2 sessions. Receive an additional $15 off when registering 3 students OR for 3 sessions. Discounts will be applied automatically when you check out and will expire on the registration deadline.

Please note classes fill up very quickly and may be full prior to registration deadlines.

Important Information

Program: American Red Cross Swim Lesson Levels
Ratio: Approximately 5 students per instructor
Location: All classes are held at Dillon Pool (NOT DENUNZIO POOL) located in Dillon Gym at Princeton University, Princeton, NJ 08544
For directions on getting to campus and where to park (Lot 23 or the West Garage) visit the parking website.
First Day of Lessons: Please arrive 10 minutes early. Aquatics staff members will evaluate students and place them with an instructor based on that assessment.
Level 1 and above will begin with a 5 minute stretching/warm up session at each lesson
What to bring to swim class:
Towel
Bathing suit
Goggles- optional but highly recommended
Swim Cap- optional

Please note:  As per the facility usage policy, A parent/guardian must remain with their child(ren) at all times anywhere in Dillon Gym.

Level Descriptions

Toddlers
Children ages 2-3 years old with limited or no lesson experience should register for the Toddler Level. This level requires an adult in the water with the child.

Preschool
Children ages 3-5 with limited or no lesson experience.

Level 1
Children ages 6-9 focusing on the most basic skills of learning how to swim and feel comfortable in the water.
Level 2
Children ages 6-9 gaining greater independence in the water by achieving success with fundamental skills.
Level 3
Children ages 6-9 continue to build on skills learned in level 2 and gaining comfort in greater water depths and distance.

For safety purposes, participants in Levels 4/5/6 must be able to properly swim at least 1 lap of freestyle at a time, by jumping into the deep end of the pool (submerging entire head.)

Level 4
Children ages 8-12 developing more variety of strokes and improve on those learned previously.
Level 5
Children ages 8-12 furthering their stroke refinement and working towards gaining confidence in each individual stroke.
Level 6
Children ages 8-12 focusing on improving techniques of all strokes as well as building endurance. This is the most advanced level offered.
