- The first Bench Press event was held on October 2, 2003. It was done in the fall semester for five years up to and including 2007. Since then, the event has been held twice a year: once in the fall semester and once in the spring semester.
- Participants bench press an assigned weight (using a barbell) for as many reps as possible. Participants must weigh-in at the desk in the fitness center. Men lift their body weight; women lift half their bodyweight. If the exact bodyweight cannot be loaded on the bar, the weight will be rounded UP to the nearest 2.5-pound increment. Example: If a man weighs 166 pounds, he will use 167.5 pounds. For a repetition to count, the bar MUST touch the chest at the bottom of the movement and the elbows MUST be fully extended at the top of the movement.
- Participants can register in the Stephens Fitness Center on the day of the event.
- T-shirts are awarded to the male and female participants who perform the most repetitions with their assigned weight.
