The Herbert Lowell Dillon Gymnasium opened in 1947 on the site of the former gymnasium that was destroyed by fire. Once home to all varsity athletics, Dillon is now mainly used as the headquarters for the Campus Recreation program. In addition to Stephens Fitness Center and Dillon Pool, Dillon includes many other activity areas along with various administrative and varsity athletic coach’s offices. It is also the home venue for men's and women's varsity volleyball and wrestling matches.
Men's and Women's Locker Rooms
Almost 9,000 sq. ft. of completely renovated and reoriented general locker room space is available on the A-level of Dillon Gym. Amenities within the locker rooms include individual showers, restrooms, grooming areas, bright lighting, mirrors, hair dryers, Suitmate swim suit dryers and more! 2-tier and 3-tier (orange) rental lockers are available for assignment at the Dillon front desk. Full-length (grey) day-use lockers are available on a first-come first-serve basis and located on the end of each locker row.
Six gender-inclusive shower, restroom, changing areas are located on the A-level of Dillon Gym. Four in the south corridor and two in the north corridor. These rooms are available to those of need on a first-come first-serve basis. Both accessible and ADA rooms are available. Day-use lockers are also available for use by all patrons in the north and south corridors.
The fitness center is a bi-level facility, approximately 8,000 square feet in size. It contains cardiovascular and selectorized equipment, as well as free weights.
The Cardio Annex provides approximately 1,200 square feet of additional cardio space.
Functional Fitness Room
This activity space is a 400 sq. ft. fitness area in the south corridor of Dillon, adjacent to the Cardio Annex. The room is designed for use by up to five individuals and provides a semi-private area to do a wide range of simple self-guided activities
Technology can be incorporated into fitness activities through the use of a 70" wall-mounted TV by streaming fitness videos via personal computer or handheld device. This space includes an Apple TV, a presentation box with HDMI connection, sound bar, air conditioning, ceiling fans, LED lighting, high-density flooring and large mirrors. The centerpiece of the space is a Synrgy90 unit (Life Fitness) that's configured with dip handles, chin-up/pull-up bar, rope pull, step-up platform and TRX Suspension Trainer. The space also offers a variety of personal-fitness equipment, including a BOSU ball, plyo box, jump ropes, resistance tubes with handles, power bands, medicine balls, adjustable barbells, stability balls, yoga mats, foam rollers and stretch strap.
The Dillon Pool is 25 yards long and consists of 6 lanes with an additional wading pool for shallow water use. Its primary function is as a site for recreational swimming and swim lessons. The pool is kept at an average temperature of 82 degrees.
Main Gym Floor
Dillon Gym's main floor consists of 4 multi-use courts (Basketball, volleyball & badminton). The Dillon Gym main floor is the site for all men's and women's varsity volleyball home contests, as well as all home wrestling matches.
Dillon Squash Courts
Dillon Gym has 5 international squash courts (#1-5), 2 available American squash courts (#6-7) and 1 doubles squash court.
Group Fitness Room
This 3,200 square foot activity room serves as a site for numerous group fitness and instructional programming offerings as well as all cycling classes.
A 2,500 square foot activity room with wood flooring that serves as a site for numerous instructional programming offerings and martial arts classes, as well as Sport Club and other student activity group practices.
Martial Arts Room
A 1,250 square foot room with matted floor and walls, as well as a 100 pound punching bag, a 100 pound Muay Thai bag and two speed bags. The Martial Arts Room serves as a site for martial art Sport Club practices and various instructional programs.
This 1,280 square foot activity room, with wood floor and mirrored walls, serves as a site for numerous instructional programming offerings as well as other student activity group practices.
Indoor Driving Range (Squash Court #15)
Additions were made to squash court #15 in order to patrons an indoor golf driving range. The re-purposed space is equipped with turf, netting, tee box and limited range balls. Please Note: Patrons must being their own clubs.
Table Tennis Room (Squash Court #16)
A table tennis table was added to squash court #16 in order to provide both recreational and Sport Club ping pong players a dedicated space.
Three approximately 400 square foot team rooms are centrally located on the A-level of Dillon. Two are exclusively for men’s and women’s varsity volleyball programs. A third room serves as a team room for varsity wrestling, sports clubs and as a multi-purpose meeting space. Each room is equipped with 70” TV and a large white board.
Athletic Training/Physical Therapy Room
A 1440 square foot Athletic Medicine space is located within the renovated Dillon A-level. Entrance to the treatment area is off the west corridor (between the men’s and women’s general locker rooms). Modalities include warm whirlpool, small cold whirlpool, ice machine, hydrocollator, ultrasound/e-stim unit, taping/bracing area, bikes, UBE, emergency equipment (crutches, AED, etc.). The athletic trainers in Dillon Gym serve a wide-range of members of the University community, including the men’s and women’s varsity volleyball teams.
