Several pieces of furniture created for the Class of 1986 Fitness and Wellness Center are made of hard maple reclaimed from the walls of the original squash courts within Dillon Gym.
The harvest tables, ottomans and shuffleboard table, specifically, were built by trainees of The Challenge Program, a workforce development non-profit based in Wilmington, Delaware. The program’s mission is to provide vocational training to Delaware’s youth (ages 18-24), empowering them with the confidence, skills and purpose needed to overcome barriers to employment.
Additionally, excess salvaged wood from the project was donated to The Challenge Program to support their educational mission.
